THE FEAST OF THE HOLY CHILD, B

FEAST OF TRUST

In the Philippines, the Christmas season is sealed with this feast of the Santo Nino, the Holy Child Jesus, an ancient devotion that is as strong as it is always fresh.

The feast of the Holy Child is a feast of trust, the trust of a child to his father/parent, the trust all of us must have towards God our real Father.

If you trust someone, you are filled with expectation. And when you see that what you expect indeed truly takes shape, you are overjoyed.

If you trust some one, even if you are disappointed at times, you still cling to hope that one day, the promise will be fulfilled, what you await will still come to pass.

This is the trust, the confidence that we find each time we gaze at an image of the Child Jesus. This is the trust we all want to have within us.

But as we grow old, trusting becomes a really complex matter. Experience tells us that not all people are reliable. You begin to be cautious when you happen to meet people who dash your high hopes and who crush your excitement.  Some of us then find it hard to believe.  Some of us begin to doubt others.

Can you still trust after devastating moments of darkness, pain, betrayal, lies, and rejection at the hands of people you thought would help you or lift you up?

The Child Jesus teaches us that in spite of the human frailties that shake us and weaken our spirits, we can still trust Someone who it truly reliable, who alone is the fulfiller of promises. We can still trust in God our Father.

Lord Jesus, as we contemplate your childhood, give us a share of the confidence you have in the Father.  Give me reason to trust and to be full of hope again…

THANK YOU POPE FRANCIS, FOR VISITING OUR NATION!
