SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER, C
-->
WHEN YOU NEED PEACE
In life we think we need more. we
work for more money. We acquire more property. We strive for more achievements.
We think that happiness and fulfillment will come with more.
But then we discover that after we
satisfy our basic needs, more of anything else does not guarantee happiness.
In today’s world, what we truly
need is peace. Yes, peace in the Middle East, peace along the nation’s borders,
peace from the threats of terror. But more important than that, is peace in our
hearts.
Let’s accept it, from the moment
we wake up until the time we go to sleep, our minds are disturbed by something,
our hearts troubled by a thousand and one concerns. For many people, fear is a
constant companion. Fear of the past, which fills us with guilt and shame. Fear
of the future, which fills us with a sense of powerlessness and helplessness.
Today, the Easter message is one
that every human heart craves for. Jesus offers us his peace. “Peace I leave
with you; my peace I give to you… do not let your hearts be troubled or
afraid.” (Jn 14: 27). This is
something we hear at Mass but have no time reflecting on. Jesus knows the
amount of problems and difficulties, pains and wounds, sadness and tears, that
we go through each day. His one
gift this Easter time is his peace!
How can we have this peace? Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will
come to teach and remind us (v. 26). He will teach us what we do not know. He
will remind us of what we have forgotten.
He will teach and remind us to “trust” God again.
Peace will come when we learn to
trust. For many people trusting God is not easy because people have betrayed us
before. Peace will come when we
remember to trust. For many others we used to trust God when life was simple
but when life became complicated, we have to return to it and acquire it back
as an attitude in life.
May we have peace today and
always, the peace that comes, not from material or human sources, but from
trusting in Jesus’ love. Entrust yesterday’s baggage to God’s forgiveness.
Entrust tomorrow’s events to God’s providence. And today, trust the Lord with
your life whole life. He will send
you the Spirit of peace!
