--> KAYA MO BA ANG SAMPU? Ano ba’ng mapapala natin sa 10 Utos? Para sa marami, mga batas lang ito na dapat isaulo sa Catholic school, mga display o karatula sa labas ng simbahan, o di kaya isang magarang lumang pelikula noong 1950’s. Bihirang ipaliwanag ito sa sermon. Hindi rin naman natin ito pinag-aaralan sa sarili natin. Kung tutuusin, hindi ba ginawa na lamang ni Hesus na 2 ang 10 utos ng Diyos? Ipinagkaloob ng Diyos ang mga utos niya sa kanyang bayan para sa isang mabuting pakay. Hindi ito mula sa kapritsyo lamang ng isang mapaglarong Diyos. Hindi rin sila mga instrumento ng paghihigpit at kontrol sa kilos at isip ng kanyang bayang Israel. Dapat alalahanin na ang mga utos na ito ang taluktok ng karanasan ng mga tao ng kanilang paglaya at kaligtasan, ng kanilang pagkakilala at pakikipag-ugnayan sa Diyos. Ganito nais ng Diyos na kumilos ang mga tao upang mapangalagaan ang kanilang bagong buhay. Ganito rin naman nais ng mga tao na tumu

--> CAN YOU KEEP ALL TEN? What good can we get from the 10 commandments? For many people these ancient divine rules are items to memorize in Catholic schools, stone tablet displays in front of churches, or a classic, spectacular movie from the 1950’s. Rarely do we hear them explained on the pulpit nowadays . Seldom do we read or study them on our own. After all, didn’t Jesus just reduce the 10 to the simpler 2 basic laws? God gave the commandments to the people for a purpose. They were not capricious, arbitrary, or whimsical desires of a playful God. They were not impositions or restrictions on free actions of his people Israel. We need to remember that the commandments were the apex of the people’s experience of liberation and freedom, of knowledge and relationship with the Lord. This was how God wanted the people to behave in order to safeguard their newfound life. This was how the people would express their gratitude and loyalty to Go
