AKTIBONG PAGHIHINTAY ANG KAILANGAN Grabe ang epekto ng bagyong Yolanda sa ating buhay. Sobrang dami ang namatay o nawawala at gayundin ang mga nasira sa paligid.   Pero ang nakapagtataka, alam nating darating ang super-bagyo na ito. Hinintay natin ang darating na bagyo. May announcements sa media, may babala mula sa Pag-asa. Hindi kaya may sinasabi ito sa paraan ng paghihintay ng mga Pilipino? Pagkatapos ng lahat, kailangan din nating aminin, minsan hindi tayo magaling maghintay. Paano ba maghintay ang mga Pilipino?   Minsan hanggang sa kadulu-duluhang pagkakataon, saka lang tayo nababagabag o kumikilos. Maraming tao ang lumilikas lamang kapag lulubog na sa baha ang bahay nila o kung nandiyan na sa katabing bahay ang sunog. Bawat barangay official ay sumasakit ang ulo sa page-evacuate sa mga tao pag may panganib dahil marami ang ayaw makinig at kumilos. Ang tawag ng ebanghelyo: maging magaling at aktibo sa paghihintay. Sa paghihintay, “Magbantay kayo!”

WHILE WAITING, ACT! Our people will always remember that typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) as the storm that beat all others.   With thousands dead and missing and millions displaced, an entire nation was brought to its knees. We continue to pray for those who lost lives and to assist those who seek to rebuild a new future. The real irony is that we waited for this typhoon to strike. We knew it was coming. Its strength was forecast days before its landfall. Warnings were sent against its strong winds, its heavy rains, and its impending huge waves. We waited, yes.   But does it say something about how, as a people, we wait? Without being insensitive to Filipinos, let’s also humbly admit it: we are not good at waiting.   How do Filipinos wait?   Many of us wait passively.   We wait until the last minute to be alarmed by real danger.   In my parish that is prone to floods, when there is a storm, people leave their homes only when the floodwaters are already s

ANG HARING AND DULOT AY PAG-ASA     Tadtad ng larawan ng paghihirap ang media ngayon tungkol sa mga nakaraang kaganapan ng bagyong Yolanda.   Matagal bago natin malimot ang trahedyang sinapit ng ating mga kababayan. Sa gitna nito, ano ang saysay ng Kristong Hari na ipinagdiriwang natin ngayon? Pansinin natin ang ebanghelyo sa araw na ito.   Ang tagpo ay ang krus at si Hesus na nakapako doon.   Ano ang tugon ng mga tao sa isang haring nakapako? Ang iba, kawalan ng pananalig tulad ng mga pinuno: kung ikaw nga ang pinili ng Diyos…   Ang iba, pagka-siphayo (disappointment) tulad ng mga sundalo:   kung ikaw nga ang hari… Ang iba, tulad ng isang magnanakaw na nakapako, kawalan ng pag-asa (despair):   iligtas mo kami! Subalit ang isang magnanakaw na nakapako din kasama ni Hesus ay napuno ng isang malaking biyaya: tiwala at pagpapaubaya (surrender) ng sarili: Hesus, alalahanin mo ako sa iyong kaharian. ANG KAPAL NG BUHOK KO! Nakakagulat na gamitin ng Panginoon ang buhok bilang isang sagisag sa pag-unawa ng mensahe ng Diyos ngayon.   Mahalaga ang buhok para sa mga tao ngayon at alam nating kung gaanong alaga ang napupunta sa pagpapanatili ng maganda, matibay at makislap na buhok.   Sino kaya ang gustong magka-buhok na magaspang at pangit?   O sino ang nais maging kalbo? Ang gusto natin ay buhok na malusog. At totoo namang ang buhok ay hindi lang isang bahagi ng katawan na inaalagaan.   Ito rin ay hudyat ng kalusugan at katiwasayan.   Pag may problema ka, pag may stress sa buhay mo, pag may karamdaman ka, di ba nalalagas ang buhok mo? Nang sabihin ni Hesus na hindi mahuhulog sa lupa ni isang hibla ng buhok ng taong sumusunod sa kanya, ibig sabihin nito, walang dapat ikatatakot ang isang alagad.   Hindi magugupo ng problema ang taga-sunod Niya.   Hindi matatalo ng takot ang tapat sa Kanya. FOR YOUR HAIR So much money, time, attention and care go to maintaining the beauty of a person’s hair.   Just look at most of the personal care commercials; if it’s not about the skin, it surely is about one’s hair.   Everybody wants that beautiful, long, silky, strong, dandruff-free hair.   Women will buy the perfect shampoo. Men will consult experts.   This vanity about hair transcends gender. The Lord Jesus certainly understands this very human concern for hair.   Hair is an indicator of health.   A person with healthy hair is a person with a healthy body and worry-free life. When hair begins to fall on your pillow or gather on the shower drain, if it’s not heredity, it must be stress or sickness. Jesus spoke of a life of challenges and trials for his disciples (Luke 21:5-19).   Those who would follow him will live through the most difficult forms of persecutions, hatred, banishment and fatigue.   To follow Jesus a person will sometimes have to “lo

BIYAHENG LANGIT Ano ba sa atin ang langit?   Habang tumatanda tila mahirap maniwala sa langit. Habang tumatalino tayo, tila mahirap maniwala sa langit.   Pambata lang yan.   Pang mangmang lang yang.   Hindi iyan para sa akin, sabi natin.   O kung napapansin man natin ang langit, ito ay kung may mga kakilala tayong namamatay. Nasa heaven na siya ngayon! Paglapit ng mga Saduseo kay Hesus, agad ipinagdiinan ng Panginoon na may langit at totoo ang pangako ng langit – ang pagkabuhay ng mga patay.   Ang mga Saduseo ay hindi naniniwala sa muling pagkabuhay.   Subalit wala nang mas malinaw pang aral tungkol sa langit mula sa Panginoon.   Sa langit ang mga tao ay mistulang anghel.   Sa langit ang lahat ay buhay dahil ang Diyos ay Diyos ng mga buhay. HEAVEN, IM IN HEAVEN… At this time of year, we normally pay a visit to the cemeteries.   It is in this occasional visit that perhaps the thought of heaven enters our mind.   Our loved ones who died ahead of us, we are fond of saying, are now in heaven with God. But what do we really mean when the idea of heaven crosses our mind?   Is it just the rendezvous of the dead? Or is heaven something that appeals only to children and the simple? In today’s gospel (Luke 20), it seems that the Sadducees have some reservations about heaven and its promise of resurrection of the dead. Surely they are now adults, more sophisticated and learned. Upon seeing the Sadducees, the Lord Jesus immediately affirmed the reality of heaven and the truth of its promise, which is the resurrection of the dead. There is a heaven to which the departed go, not to live like they did on earth but to experience a new kind of living, like the angels, as Jesus described it.   Life does n
